Although Costa Rica steals quite a bit of attention from Guatemala due to its proximity, Costa Rica is pricier. Besides which, there is still plenty to see and do while in the awe-strikingly beautiful Guatemala. There is plenty of natural sites to see while here that do not cost much, including rainforests, volcanoes, and ancient civilization sites uncommon to the average globetrotter's eye. Other common spots to visit are the National Palace of Culture and the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, both of which lend valuable insight to the vibrant history of the peoples in this Central American country located below Mexico. Mayan civilization was prominent in this area of the continent, and the ruins provide an incredible spiritual feel for newcomers.
