Decades of conflict and state fragility continue to plague Somalia, making it exceptionally dangerous. The Al-Shabaab extremist group maintains a potent presence, launching frequent attacks against government, civilian, and international targets across many regions, including sophisticated assaults in Mogadishu. Kidnapping for ransom, piracy in its maritime domain (though reduced), and inter-clan violence remain severe threats.
