With its fairy-tale setting, Mostar is a city where East meets West, blending the rich influences of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Mediterranean cultures. At its heart stands the Stari Most (Old Bridge), an architectural masterpiece originally built in the 16th century by the Ottomans. This elegant stone arch became a symbol of unity, connecting the two sides of the Neretva River—until it was tragically destroyed in 1993 during the Bosnian War. Today, the bridge has been meticulously reconstructed using traditional methods, standing once again as a symbol of resilience and peace. Mostar's Old Bazaar (Bazar Kujundžiluk) is a lively, cobbled marketplace that transports visitors back in time. Here, artisans still practice ancient crafts, selling handwoven carpets, intricate copperware, and vibrant textiles in a scene reminiscent of an Ottoman-era trading hub. Tea houses, mosques, and medieval stone buildings line the streets, giving visitors a glimpse into the city’s storied past.
