The tiny town of Ilulissat sits beside the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where towering icebergs break off from one of the most active glaciers in the world. Watching these massive floating ice sculptures drift out to sea, illuminated by the glow of the Midnight Sun, is a sight like no other. Travelers can kayak through iceberg-filled waters, hike to panoramic viewpoints, or take a scenic flight over the glacier. Ilulissat is a gateway to experiencing Greenland’s stunning Arctic wilderness and unique Inuit culture. Best time to visit: June–September (for the Midnight Sun) or January–March (for the Northern Lights).
