Inside a nondescript lab at the University of Pennsylvania, the world’s first general-purpose digital computer, ENIAC, was switched on for the first time in 1945. This moment marked the dawn of the digital revolution, leading to the computers and smartphones we use today. Though ENIAC’s original location is no longer used for computing, visitors can still see parts of it in the Penn Engineering building, where modern technology continues to evolve from its humble beginnings.
