Blood Falls seeps from the end of the Taylor Glacier into Lake Bonney. The tent at left provides a sense of scale for just how big the phenomenon is. Antarctica’s Taylor Glacier holds a chilling secret—a deep red, iron-rich liquid seeps out of its ice, resembling a waterfall of blood. The liquid, rich in iron and ancient microbes, comes from a buried, oxygen-free lake beneath the glacier. This eerie, otherworldly feature gives the illusion that the ice itself is alive and bleeding, making it one of Earth’s strangest and most alien-looking phenomena.
