At night, Indonesia’s Kawah Ijen volcano looks more like something from a deep-space nebula than an earthly phenomenon. Unlike typical red lava, this volcano spews glowing blue flames, a result of ignited sulfuric gases escaping from beneath the surface. The neon-blue rivers of molten material give off an unearthly glow, making it seem as though you’re witnessing a cosmic event rather than a terrestrial eruption.
