50 Abandoned Hotels That Are Frozen in Time
50. Hotel Saint George – Algeria

Tucked into the cliffs above Algiers Bay, the once-grand Hotel Saint George was a colonial-era marvel with Moorish arches, lush courtyards, and panoramic sea views. Originally built for French officers in the 19th century, it evolved into a symbol of colonial luxury, hosting Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle. After independence, its political symbolism made it a target—first of reclamation, then of neglect. While some parts have been restored, vast wings remain abandoned. Cracked tiles line empty corridors; carved cedar doors hang askew. The scent of jasmine still lingers in the air, a final trace of a faded imperial dream.
