38. Divine Lorraine Hotel – Philadelphia, USA: From Luxury to Landmark Ruin (and Back?)

An architectural marvel in Philadelphia, the Divine Lorraine opened in 1894, later becoming one of the city's most luxurious hotels in the early 20th century. Notably, it was also one of the first racially integrated hotels in the US under the ownership of Father Divine's peace mission. However, financial decline led to its closure in 1999. For over 15 years, the grand Victorian structure stood empty, becoming an iconic symbol of urban blight, famously covered in graffiti yet structurally defiant. Its eerie, decaying silhouette was a magnet for photographers and urban explorers before a major renovation began, bringing it back to life recently.
