An icon of Detroit's boom and subsequent struggles, the Lee Plaza Hotel opened in 1927 as a luxurious apartment hotel, dripping with Art Deco grandeur. Its ornate terracotta façade and lavish interiors catered to the city's elite. However, as Detroit faced economic decline, Lee Plaza transitioned through various uses before finally being shuttered in the 1990s. Since then, it has become a hauntingly beautiful symbol of urban decay, relentlessly succumbing to vandalism, scrapping, and the elements. Despite preservation efforts, its future remains uncertain, leaving this architectural gem frozen as a poignant reminder of a bygone golden age.
