The Ducor Hotel wasn’t just a place to stay—it was a national symbol of progress and pan-African pride. However, Liberia’s political and economic stability unraveled in the 1980s. The outbreak of civil war devastated the country, and by 1989, the hotel was shuttered and left to decay. Looters stripped away furnishings and fixtures, and soldiers were rumored to have taken up residence in the shell of the building during the conflict. Today, the structure still stands—graffitied, hollow, and overgrown—its empty corridors a haunting reflection of the country’s tumultuous journey.
