38 Places Where Nature Looks Straight Out of a Sci-Fi Movie
32. Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA: Accidental Art on an Alien Scale

Located on private land in Nevada, Fly Geyser is a bizarre, multi-hued geothermal marvel that wasn't entirely nature's doing. Created accidentally in the 1960s by well drilling, minerals from the hot water have accumulated into a series of terraced cones reaching over 12 feet, constantly spewing water. Thermophilic algae give the mounds vibrant, shifting shades of red, green, and orange. The result is a surreal, ever-evolving sculpture that looks like a biological structure from another planet, steaming and coloring the desert landscape.
