In British Columbia, Canada, there’s a lake that transforms into a field of bizarre, multicolored circles during the summer. Spotted Lake (or Kliluk) contains one of the highest concentrations of minerals in the world, and as the water evaporates in the heat, it leaves behind hundreds of strange, vividly colored pools of minerals. Each "spot" contains a unique mixture of magnesium, calcium, and sodium sulfates, giving them their unnatural colors, ranging from bright yellows to deep blues and greens. This effect makes it look like the surface of a distant, living planet, shifting in color and pattern throughout the seasons. Indigenous legends claim the lake has healing properties, while visitors often describe it as a landscape from a dream—or a sci-fi movie about an uncharted alien world.
