20. St. Nicholas Chapel – A Remote Alaskan Wonder

Tucked away in the small village of Nondalton, Alaska, St. Nicholas Chapel stands as a testament to the enduring influence of Russian Orthodox Christianity in America’s most remote regions. Built in the 1920s, this rustic wooden church replaced an earlier structure established by Russian Orthodox missionaries in 1896 when the community was still located at Old Nondalton. As the village relocated to its current site, so did this sacred place of worship, ensuring its presence remained central to the spiritual lives of its people.
