Unlike ancient ruins, Doel offers a chilling look at modern abandonment. This Belgian village sits eerily close to a nuclear power plant and has been largely deserted due to planned expansions of the Port of Antwerp that never fully materialized. While a few residents cling on, most houses stand empty, covered in elaborate graffiti, creating a surreal, unsettling streetscape. Doel has become a canvas for street artists and a symbol of resistance against industrial encroachment, offering a uniquely contemporary and visually striking abandoned landscape quite different from historical ruins.
