28. Ross Island, Andaman Islands, India: Jungle Reclaims the Raj

Once the glamorous administrative headquarters for the British in the Andaman Islands, Ross Island was known as the "Paris of the East." Complete with grand colonial buildings, ballrooms, and churches, it was abandoned after an earthquake in 1941 and subsequent Japanese occupation during WWII. Today, massive banyan tree roots entwine the crumbling Victorian architecture, creating a stunning spectacle of nature reclaiming civilization.
