Just outside Berlin lies the Beelitz-Heilstätten complex, a sprawling hospital town originally built in the late 1800s for tuberculosis patients. Over time, it became a military hospital and even treated Adolf Hitler after he was wounded in WWI. Abandoned after the Cold War, its ivy-covered buildings and empty operating rooms have become infamous for their eerie atmosphere and role in dark tourism. Beelitz has also starred in films like The Pianist and Valkyrie. Today, a few sections have been restored, but most remain hauntingly derelict—a chilling intersection of history, medicine, and madness.
