Overlooking the pristine Crater Lake, this historic lodge was once a luxurious retreat built in 1915 to accommodate wealthy travelers visiting Oregon’s only national park. However, decades of poor construction and minimal upkeep led to the building’s decline. By the 1980s, the lodge was deemed structurally unsound and was abruptly closed, left standing eerily vacant against one of the most stunning natural backdrops in the country. Although a faithful reconstruction eventually opened in 1995, the original structure’s ghostly legend lingers. Its disappearance reminds visitors that even icons, if neglected, can vanish—leaving only photographs, memories, and a view too perfect to forget.
