Deep in the wilderness of northern Maine, Eagle Lake was once a thriving logging community in the late 1800s. The town was built around a massive steam-powered sawmill, which processed lumber for the booming timber industry. However, when the logging industry declined, the town was abandoned, leaving behind ghostly remnants of its industrial past. The most famous relic is a massive locomotive, rusting in the forest, where it was left after the last workers walked away. Eagle Lake is a haunting reminder of America’s once-thriving timber towns, now slowly being reclaimed by nature.
