Most ghost towns are found in deserts or mountains, but Bodie Island off the coast of North Carolina is a ghost town lost to the sea. Once home to a small fishing village in the 1800s, the settlement was gradually swallowed by shifting sands and encroaching waters. Over time, hurricanes and erosion forced residents to abandon their homes, and today, only the Bodie Island Lighthouse remains, standing watch over the ghostly remnants of what was once a thriving community. As the waves continue to reclaim the land, this forgotten town’s story is slowly being erased by nature.
