In the heart of the Nebraska plains, Carhenge stands as a tribute to both ancient history and modern ingenuity. Built in 1987 by Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father, Carhenge replicates the iconic Stonehenge using vintage automobiles. The site features 39 cars arranged in a circle, painted in shades of gray to mimic the original stones. Carhenge challenges conventional notions of art and architecture, transforming discarded vehicles into a striking homage to human creativity. Visitors are encouraged to explore the site and reflect on the juxtaposition of past and present, nature and industry. This unique attraction serves as a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places, inspiring us to see the world through a different lens.
