The University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a university unlike any other. Established in 1290, it is famous for its stunning Baroque library, the Biblioteca Joanina, which looks like something from a fairytale—golden bookshelves, painted ceilings, and centuries-old manuscripts. The university buildings are actually inside a former royal palace, complete with a bell tower, ceremonial halls, and scenic terraces overlooking the city. Studying in Coimbra is like living in a historical masterpiece.
