The Best Of The International Travel & Tourism's Photo Contest
The Society of International Travel & Tourism Photographers welcomes professional and enthusiast photographers whose interests are capturing the scenes around the world. Their 2016 My Voyage of Discovery competition asked photographers to submit images from anything on their travels. More than 530 images were submitted showcasing everything from beautiful nature scenes to showing how the locals live and work. Jewel Chakma from Bangladesh was the winner of the competition for her peaceful photo of a Buddhist monk on his way to collect food.
The winning shot was Jewel Chakma from Bangladesh's photo showing a Buddhist monk in a boat. The photo shows the monk traveling through the mist, on his way to collect food from villagers. Locals call it Pindusoron. It is a system that monks use to get fed.
Old Man Of Storr
An honorable mention went to John Massey's shot of the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye. Getting the perfect shot of this iconic landmark required some maneuvering for him to get some separation between the small island on the Loch and the Loch shoreline.
Waterfall of Smoke
Brazilian photographer Bruno Graciano took this picture of his friend Reginaldo Gomes walking a tightrope 165 feet in the air by the Cachoeira da Fumaca - 'Waterfall of Smoke'- in Nova Ponte. Graciano describes the shot as magical.
Women Raking Grain
Rahul Saha from Santipur, India took the second place spot with his shot of women raking grain in the field. The raking is part of the grain drying process, and it is usually women who do this work.
Steam Train Crossing Glenfinnan Viaduct
Third place went to Vytenis Malisaukas, a professional photographer living in Cork, Ireland. Scotland's lush greenery is the setting for his photo of a steam train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct in Inverness-shire.
Casting A Net In Myanmar
An honorable mention went to Sara Bianchi for her animated shot of a Burmese fisherman casting his net at Lake Inle, Myanmar. Bianchi was amazed by the complicated fishing technique and the level of skill required by the fishermen.
Undisturbed Icelandic Landscape
German research engineer Daniel Gerbeth's photo of a still active volcanic area in Iceland got an honorable mention. The blurred parts of the photo are steam from the cracks in the ground.
